How to Care for a Distressed Coffee Table?
Distressed wood dining tables add a touch of warmth and rustic charm to any home. Whether the table is antique or finished to look that way, it requires gentle care and cleaning methods to keep it looking its best. Unfinished distressed wood shouldn’t come in contact with water because it can absorb into the wood and cause swelling or water spots. If dry cleaning and dusting won’t remove the dirt, you can use mineral spirits. For finished wood, pH-balanced liquid soap can remove most dirt and residue without harming the finish.

– Cotton diapers

– Cotton swabs
– Distilled water
– Sponge
– Microcrystalline wax
– Shoe polishing brush
– Rubber gloves
– Mineral spirits
Finished Wood Distressed Coffee Table
1 – Remove any dust from the table with a soft, dry cloth, brush or vacuum with brush attachment.
2 – Dilute a few drops of mild, neutral-pH soap with 2 cups of warm water in a container. Dip a cotton diaper into the solution and wring it out. Wipe the wood table thoroughly to remove any dirt or residue. For intricate carvings or small details, use cotton balls or swabs dipped in the cleaning solution.
3 – Wipe the table with a clean cotton diaper dampened with distilled water. Rinse, wring and wipe to remove all traces of soap residue. Blot any water with a sponge or dry cotton diaper.
4 – Apply a light coat of microcrystalline wax using a cotton rag or brush and allow it to dry for 15 minutes.
5 – Buff the table with a cotton diaper or shoe polishing brush to restore shine.
Unfinished Wood Distressed Coffee Table
1 – Remove any dust, loose dirt or debris from the table with a soft, dry cloth, brush or vacuum with brush attachment.
2 – Put on rubber gloves. Dampen a cotton cloth or soft-bristled brush with mineral spirits. Wipe the table with the cloth or brush to remove any dirt or residue.
3 – Dry the table with a cotton rag or diaper.
Warning
Keep your distressed wood dining table out of extreme temperatures, humidity and direct sunlight. These things can cause fading, swelling, cracking or softening.
Note: Wax distressed wood once a year to bring out it’s natural beauty and protect it.
